Teaching in Aguadulce

Everyday I arrive to the school Aguadulce with kids filled with such a vibrant energy. “Good Morning Teacher!” welcoming me into the classroom. Always excited and ready to learn.
I start my first class with preschool and first grade, and when I say they were the cutest bundle of kids, I mean it. 5, 6, and 7 year olds equally as ecstatic to learn English as the older kids. Always asking me how to say anything they laid their eyes on. Mesa. Table. Cancha. Field. Agua. Water. That is how our conversation would go, and as you could imagine, it would go on for a while.
Next came 2nd and 3rd grade, lunch, and then 4th and 5th grade. First came the lesson for the day, greetings, numbers, or animals, and then the classroom would come alive. I’ve never seen kids so excited to be involved in the classroom. We’d play games only in English such as Charades or Hangman, and then divide the room into teams, having simple matches that turned into intense competitions, each trying to prove their English skills. All excited to participate made them all winners to me.
It was a pleasure to teach a group of kids filled with such passion and positive energy. 36 kids aged from 4 to 12, made everyday stepping into that classroom like stepping into teachers paradise, a group of kids eager to learn.
With this experience, Aguadulce, Choachi truly has become one of my favorite places in Colombia.
