Quininí

Meet the Quininí coffee growers!

Quininí is not the name of a nearby town or place. It's a sacred mountain that dominates the landscape and stands as an icon of identity for the people that live at its foothills.

Three years ago we were contacted by a friend of the community. He was very persistant in telling us that we needed to pay a visit the area, after which, it didn’t take long for us to realize its potential. A collective of 10 coffee growing families had just recently begun functioning as an organization. They called themselves APRENAT, and they were the Association of Protectors of the Natural Resources of Quininí Mountain. They had dreams to preserve their natural & cultural heritage, to protect the neighboring forest reserve and to share the coffee growing process with visitors to the area.

Since that day, we have been working to support the Quininí coffee growers and their community-based tourism initiative, bringing visitors to the area, helping to develop their product offering and improve their brand. More recently, we have begun working with the newly developed Inheritors of the Mountain youth club, organizing educational programs and activites that support their cause.

Current Projects

11/2/2016 - We are currently working on the revitalization of the youth library. We have alread begun construction to repair the walls and floor, after which we will bring in new shelving for the books, as well as decorative items and lighting to make the space more user-friendly. Once the library is completed we hope to establish an ongoing vacation program covering a variety of themes and educational topics. For more information on the library project CLICK HERE.
