And what a success! The “Herederos de la Montaña” became photographers this weekend! Our day started all gathered in the hacienda of Cerro Quinini. We began by recognizing the youth club and their growing leadership in the community by holding a small ceremony for them and presenting them with “Herederos de la Montaña” t-shirts. But it was much more than that. We hoped this recognition would bring them pride and fulfillment and help them understand their significance as members of their community.

Then the workshop began and together we practiced the basics of photography. We taught the importance of framing, the rule of thirds, and the importance of creativity, all while creating a memory. Soon enough, the hacienda came alive with kids running around, capturing photos of all aspects of life around them. If you haven't seen our pictures yet of the event you can check them out right now on Facebook. To put what they learned to practice, we held a scavenger hunt, everyone’s favorite activity. In pairs, the kids set off to find the items on the list, and capture the best possible photo they could. We then all got together to go through the photos, explain how we could make them better and vote for a winner. However, in our eyes, they all were. With a photography lesson all under their belts, we then sent them home with disposable cameras so they can practice on their own, and put to use what they learned. Excited and determined, the Herederos set off to capture their own stories through their own lens. Stay tuned for a gallery of their work! These are truly a great group of kids.
