When can I start and for how long should I be available? In order to avoid confusion and difficulty adjusting, we are looking for volunteers that can committ to teaching for at least one semester. The Spring semester runs from the end of January through mid-June and the Fall semester from mid-July through mid-December.

Where am I going? You will be traveling to the rural community of Aguadulce, roughly 35 minutes by bus from the center of the city.

Who will I be teaching? You will begin the day by teaching 3 separate classes (about 90 minutes each) to primary school students of varying ages. We are also looking for someone who is willing to teach English to local guides in the evening (starting at 5pm).

What will I be doing? Responsibilities include planning and carrying out dynamic English lessons. We provide tools such as games, books and lesson plan ideas, but volunteers are ultimately responsible for designing and implementing their own lesson plans.

What are the requirements for this position?

Volunteers must be fluent English speakers and feel comfortable communicating in Spanish at a basic level. Must be willing to committ to at least one semester. Some teaching experience is preferred, but not required.

Where will I be staying?

This opportunity does not require you to stay overnight in the community. You will take a bus to and from the city. If you stay to teach the guides in the evening, transport back to the city center will be arranged for you.

Do you help cover my costs?

Interchange Colombia will reimburse you for your transportation costs at the end of each semester. Please note this only includes public buses/Transmilenio and does not include taxis/uber should you choose to use them.  We will also reimburse you for materials/copies as needed.

Will there be other volunteers?

There may be other volunteers from time to time working on other projects, but we only have a need for 1 English instructor at a time.

What can I do in between classes? The surrounding area offers incredible views and hiking trails, should you wish to explore a little. You can also opt to take a bus to Choachí (30 minutes further) and spend some time walking around the town or relaxing in the hot springs.
